The Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust is a non-profit organisation
formed by the public and supported by
Christchurch City Council and Environment Canterbury.
Ihutai is an abbreviation for Tai ki uta, Ihu Tai maroro,
meaning Ihu Tai ki uta,
“from the nose of the tide back to the land”,
Ihu Tai maroro,
“to where the sea sinks down (on the continental shelf)”.
